News update – December 2014.
The Playschool users meeting on 16th September went well, we sorted some official stuff for the Preschool Learning Alliance, Ofsted and the Charities Commission and agreed on the constitution and ‘Playschool Year’ document and staff wage increases in line with minimum wage increases. We discussed Playschool contributing to the updating/maintenance of the Village Hall – these plans have subsequently been put on hold whilst agreement is reached with the Village Hall committee on the way forward.
We have now stopped visiting our Woodland nursery for this year. We had some lovely days there and hope to return in the spring.
The Family photo morning with mini Jumble sale on 4th October went very well. Some beautiful photos and bargains to be had! Cat and Michele took the left over Jumble to a car boot sale the following day and sold loads. All money raised was used to subsidise our outing to Monsters play area. Thank you to everyone who contributed, bought and helped out.
On 24th October we all went to Monsters. It was a busy, but very enjoyable day and made extra special as it was a PD day we were joined by some older children that have left Playschool.
The children enjoyed their hot lunches this term and it was great that so many parents and carers could join us for the ‘key persons’ lunches. The hot lunches form part of our ‘school readiness’ programme at Playschool as well as being an enjoyable social time.

Children’s Learning Journeys will be sent home for you to look at during December (apart from very new children). Please add your comments to the Puzzle sheets and return the folder to Playschool. Parent consultations with your key person, will be arranged at the beginning of next term to discuss your child’s development and future learning.
Do you have any skills/talents you could share with the children e.g. playing a musical instrument, cooking, woodwork etc. if you do please speak to a member of staff about coming in for a session. Parents/carers are always welcome to join us during the sessions to help with activities – just let a member of staff know if you would like to stay or sign up to the voluntary parent rota.
Please remember children need to be dressed in suitable clothes for the weather and ones that will be OK to get dirty! Please send in a complete change of clothes, so that if they get wet/muddy we can change them for the rest of the session, a rain coat & hat/gloves.
Reminder: children’s lunch boxes are stored in the cool kitchen-annex but still need an ice-pack to keep contents fresh. Please make lunches as healthy as possible, NO SWEETS IN LUNCH BOXES PLEASE.
If your child is unwell he or she needs to be at home with you for their own good and to stop the spread of disease to other children or staff. They MUST NOT return to Playschool until 48 hours after they have stopped diarrhoea or sickness. If your child needs Calpol – they should not be at Playschool – Playschool is a busy environment and they will recover better and quicker if they have a quiet day at home. .
PLEASE INFORM PLAYSCHOOL OF REASONS FOR ANY ABSENCE.
If you have any outstanding fees please phone Sam (our admin lady) to arrange payment.
In the event of severe weather Playschool will close if Thomas Mills High School closes. Please listen to local radio or look at their website for information.
**Don’t forget – Our Stay & Play group for Parents & Carers and their under 5 children, term time Tuesdays 10am to 11.30am, it’s a good time to meet and chat to other Playschool families. **
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
from Michele, Catherine, Sally, Rachel, Diane, Louise & Jo
